Student Council

Notre Dame Junior School considers it important that our students play an active, positive role in the life of our school and believe that our Student Council helps to achieve this.

In September, representatives from Prep 1 to Prep 6 are elected by secret ballot by fellow class members and hold their position for the duration of that academic year.

Members meet once a fortnight, at lunchtime, in the Pod and meetings are facilitated by Ms Sisk. Prior to these meetings, the Student Council collect ideas and suggestions from all classes, for the agenda.  These items are then discussed and brought to staff meetings for further discussion. Ideas for discussion range from competitions, fundraising ideas, gardening suggestions, playground games, quizzes etc.

Through our Student Council we hope to give our pupils a more active role in the organisation of our school and ensure they are listened to and respected for their ideas and concerns. Class and council meetings help to develop social and learning skills in many areas including speaking and listening, problem solving, brainstorming and the decision-making process.
